Modern City Living, Refined

Designed by Kate Zharkova of Gallery KBNY, this Columbus Avenue apartment captures the essence of contemporary Manhattan living. The interior balances clean architectural lines with layered textures, creating a home that feels both elevated and inviting within the energy of New York City.

A beautiful bright apartment

Throughout the open plan living area and into the bedroom, Havwoods' Ferro HW16408P provides a seamless foundation. The smoky grey plank from the Italian Collection introduces depth, enhancing the natural light while grounding the neutral palette. Its refined tone complements the apartment’s modern detailing, allowing furnishings and art to take center stage while maintaining a cohesive aesthetic.

Designer Kate Zharkova of Gallery KBNY reflected on the transformation, explaining that “the existing space was cold and overly commercial, defined by heavy millwork, wood paneling, dark flooring, carpeting, and a small, enclosed kitchen.” She noted that “our client wanted to transform it into a home that felt personal — warm, soft, feminine, and inviting,” a vision realised through “layered textures, a natural colour palette, and green accents that echo throughout the home.” As she described, “from the fluted green powder room vanity, to the lush green bar, to the forest green fluted tile in the primary bathroom, these moments create continuity while adding depth and character.”

A Sustainable Foundation

Ferro is a PEFC Certified product PEFC/16-37-1417, supporting responsible forest management and sustainable sourcing. In an urban environment where design and performance must work hand in hand, Ferro delivers both durability and understated sophistication.

Kate described the flooring as a foundational element of the design, noting that “Ferro flooring was one of the first materials we selected. It struck the perfect tonal balance and beautifully complements the spirit of the apartment.” She highlighted how “in natural light, its richness and variation truly come to life,” bringing depth and character to the space. Reflecting on the finished project, she added, “When our client walked into her finished apartment, she immediately said it felt like home.” For Kate, this moment captures the essence of good interior design: “not just creating something beautiful or on-trend, but shaping a space that genuinely feels like home.”
