Discover how Antique transformed the iconic Confederation Lounge, successfully blending the venue's 1915 architectural heritage with the high-performance demands of a modern luxury hotel.

The Confederation Lounge at the Fairmont Hotel Macdonald in Edmonton, Alberta, is a landmark establishment that has delivered luxury since 1915. The recent renovation required a design approach that respected the lounge's original architectural heritage, characterized by rich wood panelling and a deeply traditional aesthetic, while incorporating modern elements and, crucially, meeting the high-performance standards essential for a busy, high-end hospitality environment. The flooring solution needed to offer both timeless charm and exceptional durability to withstand constant guest footfall.

To meet this exacting brief, the designers selected Antique (HW1591) from our Henley Collection, laid in the intricate and classic Versailles pattern. Antique, a rustic auburn toned wood, perfectly captures the traditional, opulent aesthetic required for the space, harmonizing beautifully with the dark ceiling and extensive wood panelling. The Versailles pattern elevates the floor, transforming the surface into a defining architectural feature that reinforces the venue's historical European design influences.

This project is a prime example of Havwoods' capability to support complex heritage renovations. The chosen material is not only aesthetically authentic to the venue's legacy but also technically superior for hospitality use, thanks to its inclusion in the Henley Collection, which is engineered for high-traffic areas. The result is a stunning, durable floor that ensures the historic charm of the Confederation Lounge will endure for future generations of guests.
