Oriole is a basement cocktail bar located in London’s Smithfield Market area, and its plumage is as showy as that of the exotic songbird for which it is named. With tropical print wallpaper, traditional Versailles patterned wood flooring, rich green leather banquette seating and curio-filled glass cabinets, it takes the fruits of exile, empire and exploration as the inspiration for both the decor and the drinks. Old World meets New World meets the Orient, with Chinese fans, tribal masks, horns, tusks and shells spilling out like trophies in a globetrotter’s home. It harks back to a golden age of travel and exploration when much of the globe was colored pink; it is nostalgic, theatrical, and loads and loads of fun. We’re so glad to have been involved.
