The landmark ‘Two Fifty One’ residential tower building is situated in the heart of Elephant and Castle in London with magnificent views over the iconic London cityscape, including the London Eye and The Shard. Decorating the show apartment at this significant development was no mean feat and took a lot of careful consideration and planning – resulting in an impressive award win once completed.
The brief for the designer was to dress this two-bedroom apartment on the 34th floor of the building, with incredible views out over London. Aiming to create a space that buyers would remember with character, colour and an element of fun, the apartment also needed to reflect the surrounding area.
The apartment required a beautiful quality finish, using high specification products. The finished scheme needed to appeal to a range of buyers, so the main priority was to ensure that the selected products would be hardwearing, but also contemporary and complement the building’s unique design. This included marble tiling in the bathrooms, a high-end kitchen and appliances and Havwoods’ engineered oak flooring used throughout.
The whole development used the Blanco herringbone board from the Design By Havwoods collection. The apartments feature vast floor to ceiling windows, meaning that the flooring had to handle large amounts of natural light. The glass walls are also angled and supporting concrete piers were left exposed for a loft-type feel, creating a multi-purpose space from which the views can be enjoyed at all angles. The herringbone flooring has helped to unify the space and worked well with the quirky angles.
In addition, when showing the undressed apartments, the wood flooring added character and showed buyers that quality finishes had been used throughout.
Since completion, the show apartment has won Silver for Best Interior Design at the 2018 What? House Awards.
