“The support from Havwoods was first rate; the contractor was impressed with the installation and positive comments were received from the public on the opening day. Havwoods are now my first choice for interesting and exciting timber flooring.”

Part of the Heartlands World Heritage Gateway Site, this new bistro-style cafe was previously a carpenter’s workshop attached to the defunct tin mine’s access shaft.

As a Grade II listed building the choice of materials had to maintain the original character of the space, a stipulation reinforced by the client, who also wished to maintain a traditional aesthetic as a background for the original machinery which creates visual focal points.

As an eating establishment, however, health and hygiene issues were paramount. The designer specified an engineered timber board, for practicality and to alleviate any hygiene concerns, in larch since it was a wood originally in use in the mine. Finding a product which was acceptable, however, proved elusive until Havwoods became involved.
