Meeting our present needs without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.
Sourcing materials from sustainably responsible sources has never been as important as it is today. All of us - as individuals as well as organisations - are responsible for the environment we live in, and all our actions influence the three elements of sustainability; economy, society and environment. Sustainability belongs to us all.
For us at Havwoods, sustainability is a matter of extreme importance. It affects everything that we do, and we are continuously taking new steps to improve our action in this area. We do our utmost to ensure that our timber is ethically and sustainably sourced and work only with reputable timber companies. We require an independent certification to verify our timber sources, and this certification is available also for you to demonstrate to your clients that you have met their expectations for ethical trading.
We know that deforestation is having a huge impact on the environment - global warming, soil erosion, the loss of habitat for plants and animals, and the destruction of local populations and the water cycle, to name but a few factors. Helping local population to preserve their forests is the task of international non-profit organisations like the Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC®).
Another international organisation that you will find reference to in our website is the PEFC™, which stands for Program of the Endorsement of Forest Certification. Their focus is to ensure that certification is accessible even to small and family owned forests. Cradle to Cradle Products Innovation Institute addresses issues form a different angle; education and empowering manufactures to become a positive force for society and the environment.
HavSeal™ is our own seal of approval taking even further measures ensuring sustainable and responsible procurement within our supply chain. The HavSeal™ seal of approval is awarded to those products that exceed the already high standards needed to ensure entry into our portfolio. Not only do we consider the origin, the legality and sustainability of each of the products, but we also take into account the energy that goes into production of the product, the chemical content of the product as well as the mill's commitment to re-using its waste.
The Green Seal award is given to the products that offer extra international accreditation, identified as coming from sources that offer higher standards of energy use and waste generation.
The Gold Seal is awarded to the products coming from mills that show an extreme passion and proactive approach to ecological benefits such as reusable heating for local communities, the powering of wind turbines, financing the re-introduction of animals into the forest areas and commitments to replanting forest and woodland areas such as the Forest Stewardship.
