Learn about our new Manchester Showroom Consultant Sarah Doubleday and what she thinks about wooden flooring.

Tell us a little bit about yourself

I graduated from the University of Huddersfield in 2018 with a 1st class degree in Interior Design. Since then I have gained a total of 3 years’ experience in the Design and Architecture Industry working for reputable studios in London, where I got to work on a diverse range of projects from Workplace to Exhibition, and Hospitality.

From 2020, I took some time out to travel Southeast Asia, where I volunteered helping to build a self-sustaining homestead in Thailand, ran a variety of workshops at a sustainable art studio In Malaysia, and taught English in Vietnam. I met some incredible people along the way, and learned things I never would have imagined in such a short space of time!

What attracted you to work for Havwoods?

What attracted me to Havwoods is that they care for sourcing all of their products sustainably, and continue to strive to improve their footprint along with encouraging companies they work with to do the same. I am big on sustainable living and all for companies that are doing their bit for the health and wellbeing of both the environment and the employees.

Why do you think wooden floorings are so popular?

Wooden flooring provides natural warmth to any space and somewhat connects people to nature. Being a product of nature, each piece is completely unique, no matter how it has been treated and finished, you will never get one plank of wood that is equal to another – like people, I suppose! This could be why customers are so attracted to wooden flooring.

What do you personally think wood flooring can bring to a design scheme?

Ultimately, wooden flooring brings nature indoors, adding warmth and connecting us with nature – something not many other floors can do. Wood is also a highly versatile product, it is hard-wearing and can be finished in so many different ways. No matter what type of project you are working on there will always be a perfect wooden flooring for you.

How do you help the customer to choose the right flooring for them?

When a customer comes into the showroom I like the get to know them and their project first to fully understand their needs and wants. From there I can help to guide them in the right direction. In my opinion a flooring choice is ultimately a customer choice, because a lot of the decision-making comes down to personal preference, but I am here to make sure our customers are 100% equipped with the information and inspiration that they need to make a decision they will continue to be happy with.

Why are showrooms so important for the flooring decision process?

Seeing a wooden flooring on a photo or video is no comparison to a real-life viewing. A wooden flooring is so dynamic and characterful, and it changes its appearance depending on the light hitting from different angle, at different temperatures.
