A Modern Trattoria in Chicago’s Loop

Located within the Kimpton Gray Hotel at 120 W. Monroe, Trattoria La Bella brings a lively new Italian dining experience to the heart of Chicago’s Loop. Designed by Aria Group, the restaurant transforms an existing hospitality space into a bold, playful trattoria that captures the spirit of la dolce vita.

Rich restaurant interiors

The interior of La Bella Trattoria balance historic architectural character with vibrant, contemporary design elements, creating a warm and energetic destination for dining in downtown Chicago.

Rich wood paneling, marble tabletops, brass accents, and plush seating combine to create an inviting environment that feels both timeless and modern. The design celebrates classic Italian hospitality while introducing a fresh, stylish aesthetic suited to the surrounding urban setting.

Bespoke herringbone flooring

A defining feature of the restaurant’s interior is the bespoke herringbone wood flooring, created using a blend of products from our Henley collection. Portland (BPFH13/1612/70), Hartland (BPFH13/1609/70), and Jutland (BPFH13/1611/70) were carefully combined to produce a distinctive herringbone pattern that runs throughout the dining areas.

All three products are rustic grade planks, chosen for their natural character and tonal variation. The interplay of warm wood tones introduces depth and visual movement across the floor, grounding the interior and complementing the restaurant’s layered palette of rich browns, warm metals, and soft upholstery.

Character and warmth through natural materials

The wood flooring acts as a visual anchor within the space, guiding guests through the bar, lounge, and dining areas while tying together the restaurant’s architectural details.

By pairing expressive materials with thoughtful design, Aria Group has created a restaurant interior that feels lively yet intimate. At Trattoria La Bella, the combination of bold design and natural materials captures the charm and warmth of an Italian trattoria, right in the center of Chicago.
