A refined and efficient transformation in the Upper East Side
This 890 square foot Upper East Side apartment underwent a thoughtful redesign by Simon Zhang of XZ Architecture. Every detail was considered to ensure efficiency, comfort and a strong sense of character.
Hartland from the Henley collection serves as the primary flooring throughout the residence. Hartland is a rustic grade plank with a rich cocoa tone and a textured surface that brings warmth to the interior. In a herringbone layout, the floor adds rhythm and visual movement, guiding circulation through the living room, dining nook, kitchen and private spaces.

Simon Zhang explains the design approach:
""The well-thought-out layout ensured a highly efficient floor plan, and thorough consideration of details helped the project own a high-quality finish." The project positively affects the client’s daily life, and they enjoy staying in it."
In the living area, Hartland grounds the soft furnishing palette and highlights the sculptural ceiling design. The dining space features built-in seating that fits seamlessly within the compact plan. The hallway and bedroom entry continue the warm tone of the floor, pairing beautifully with custom cabinetry and light wood doors.
In the kitchen, Hartland provides a rich contrast to the glossy cabinetry and marble surfaces, adding depth and balance to a high functioning space. Throughout the home, the rustic character of the timber allows the interiors to feel welcoming and timeless.
Hartland plays a key role in unifying the home, enhancing both the aesthetic and the lived experience of this compact New York residence.
