Situated on the bustling high street of historic Sussex town Lewes, popular bakery chain Gails has opened its latest café.

The new site, designed by Made In Place, has given a new lease of life to a building with plenty of history, having once been the home of a Lewes dispensary in 1847 and a small accident hospital in 1867.
An important part of the design brief was to reuse materials where possible in order to maintain a sense of history and charm. The ideal flooring solution for a heavy footfall café, Havwoods’ Knightsbridge 3-layered engineered oak flooring was specified for the main seating area.
Chosen in the Blonde colourway, the 1-Strip floor perfectly complements historic features such as exposed brick walls and a stone floor in the entrance, as well as other wooden detailing throughout. Working with local artist Gemma Cheney to incorporate a red accent colour into the scheme, the warm tone of the flooring adds an inviting feeling, reflective of the warmth of the Sussex town.
