Blending historic charm with modern Scandinavian fluency, this Edwardian London home - reimagined by TAK Studio - presents a refined family home, designed to feel inviting and relaxing, yet stylish. The project pairs Alsace chevron with Serres plank flooring to create a light-filled backdrop that balances heritage detailing with Nordic calm.

Scandinavian style in an Edwardian London home

Reframing an Edwardian classic

This Edwardian property had strong architectural bones but tired interiors. Original hallway tiling was carefully preserved, honouring the building’s history, while worn floorboards were replaced with engineered timber better suited to contemporary family life.

TAK - a boutique architecture and interior design practice draw on Scandinavian design, British sensibility, and a touch of quirkiness, to bring spaces to life.

The brief was to create a calm oasis for a young family - serene yet robust, refined yet resilient enough to withstand life with a toddler. The Studio approached the design as a collaboration, shaping spaces around how the clients live and entertain.

Light reflective tones

To bring Scandinavian clarity into this Edwardian home, TAK Studio specified  HW2022LF Alsace Chevron to the kitchen, dining and living areas, paired with HW3714 Serres Plank in the bedrooms. Both from the Platinum colour group, they were selected for their pale, light-reflective tones, responding to the ground floor’s need for increased brightness and aligning with the home’s Scandi aesthetic.

The chevron introduces subtle movement and visual texture across the main living spaces. In contrast, the wide-format plank in the bedrooms creates a quieter, more expansive feel - ideal for restorative spaces.

A backdrop designed to last

Throughout the property, the flooring is intentionally understated. TAK Studio describe it not as the soloist, but as part of a greater composition;  “When we design, the flooring is a backdrop to life, similar to walls. It is functional and not the star of the show - an orchestra cannot only be made of solos.” says Aleks from Tak Studio. That philosophy is evident in the finished scheme. The pale timber brings warmth without heaviness, softness without fragility. Chevron patterns catch the light throughout the day, while plank boards lend calm continuity upstairs. Together, they ground the home in natural texture and calm confidence.

“The warmth of wood, the clarity of Scandinavian design, and the elegance of Edwardian architecture conspire to create a true city retreat - where entertaining flows easily and family life feels effortless, cosy, and inspired”
