Classic Finish for a Contemporary Space
Located in South Kensington, the Science Museum is one of the UK’s most iconic institutions, attracting millions of visitors annually.
When it came to designing the new Medicine Galleries, architect Wilkinson Eyre and contractor IntParagon required flooring that would support the heritage of the space while delivering a modern, structured appearance.
Havwoods supplied the Caffe Chevron board, a special order engineered oak with a clean grade and clear finish.
Installation on an Unprecedented Scale
Spanning 150 metres in length, the first-floor gallery demanded both quality and quantity.
Loughton Contracts undertook the technical task of installing over 47,000 individual pieces of Caffe Chevron, equal to nearly 18 miles of engineered timber.
This scale of installation required precise craftsmanship and coordination, with the flooring forming a key visual and material component of the gallery experience.
