Designed by Interiors By Laila, this riverside apartment at St Hilda’s Wharf in Wapping, London, is a contemporary residential refurbishment overlooking the Thames. The project transforms a dated 1990s interior into a calm, confident home, with Arena Herringbone specified throughout, playing a central role in shaping the apartment’s overall look and feel.
A Riverside Reimagining

Loft-style London Living
Located within a modern riverside development on Wapping High Street, this apartment enjoys expansive glazing, strong architectural lines and uninterrupted views across the Thames. While the building itself was built in the 1990s, the interior felt dated when the client purchased it, prompting a full redesign to better reflect his lifestyle and taste.
The brief was to modernise the flat and create a refined, contemporary interior that reflected the client’s personality. The client is a lawyer who lives alone, so the space needed to feel confident, calm, and tailored rather than overly decorative.
The inspiration was loft-style London living - clean, open, and architectural, but still warm and inviting. A key objective was to introduce materials that felt timeless and elevated, while also ensuring the apartment functioned well as a private home rather than a show space.
A mid tone from the Brunette colour group
HW3003-16 Arena Herringbone was specified throughout the entire apartment, including the hallway, open-plan living and dining area, and both bedrooms. This continuity was intentional, helping the apartment feel cohesive and spacious.
The client was immediately drawn to Arena for its balanced mid-tone colour, sitting comfortably between light and dark. It introduces warmth, texture and a sense of permanence that softens the modern architecture while maintaining a crisp, intentional aesthetic whilst the herringbone pattern adds visual interest without feeling decorative.

Calm, Confident, and Contemporary
Natural light from the Thames-facing windows interacts beautifully with the mid-tone oak throughout the day, appearing warm and soft in the morning and more structured and architectural in the evening. The hallway becomes a key focal point, creating a strong sense of arrival and leading naturally through the space.
The transformation has turned a once-dated interior into a calm, cohesive and refined home tailored to the client’s lifestyle. The flooring plays a key role in grounding the interior, allowing the furniture, artwork, and blue colour palette to sit comfortably without feeling overly styled.
“Arena Herringbone delivered the perfect balance of warmth, architectural clarity and understated luxury.”
