The Watford Colosseum undergoes a major transformation with a £16 million refurbishment, bringing new life to a Grade II listed cultural venue. Central to the design is the striking use of Havwoods flooring throughout the space.

Honouring the Past

The ambitious revitalisation of the Watford Colosseum aims to respect the venue’s rich legacy. Managed by AEG Presents UK and scheduled to reopen in October 2025, the project is supported by the government's Levelling Up fund. Key upgrades include a new stage, reopened main entrance, upgraded bars, and enhanced wayfinding.

For designers and architects, the challenge lay in blending historic architectural details with a refreshed identity fit for contemporary audiences. The material palette was selected to reflect this dual mission, with flooring playing a crucial role in achieving cohesion across old and new elements.

A Defining Feature

Flooring is central to the project’s visual and functional success. Havwoods products were chosen for their refined aesthetics, performance, and ability to unify heritage features with contemporary elements.

HW2210 Mayenne Midi and HW2020 Roanne Classic Chevron from the PurePlank collection, alongside HW954 Cedro from the Venture Plank range, were specified throughout.

Installed by Blade Flooring, these surfaces contribute to high-traffic public areas. As Kateryna Pyvovarenko of Blade Flooring explains,

“This wasn’t just a refurbishment, it was about reviving a beloved landmark with materials that respect its legacy and enhance its future.”
