The layout was confusing and, without a clear flow, made the apartment feel more compact and dated than it really was. The client asked for a complete refurbishment that would help the property succeed when brought to market.

The brief was to create a contemporary feel through the interior design, whilst also adding bespoke elements that would inject personality and character into the apartment. 

In a practical sense, the apartment also needed to appeal to a broad market, including those who might buy-to-let and part-time residents - therefore it was important to get the balance right.

Havwoods worked alongside the designers to create a space that would look impressive, even when stripped of all its furnishings. This meant ensuring that all the hard finishes were of high-end quality, and that they were visually appealing on their own.

The flooring was a big part of the design, as it connected the living spaces with the entrance and the bespoke staircase. While the apartment is on the first floor, it features its own entrance, so the staircase was finished to match the Havwoods flooring to ensure continuity. The distinctive, light finish of the Blanco herringbone boards provided a stunning addition to the home, while a lot of bespoke joinery in various finishes was used to zone the areas.

Certain structural elements of the building caused a challenge; however, one particular room with a ceiling too low to become a bedroom was transformed into a cinema room, which has proved an enormous success.

Now, the apartment provides a contemporary, yet inviting home that will be enjoyed for the next 30 years and beyond!
