Kieran and his wife Ksenya set out to breathe new life into their tired dark original home. Working with Graph Building, they planned a substantial renovation that would see their house stripped back to the bones, rebuilt and extended to provide them with a modern home that could grow with their family.
There were a few key design elements of their original home which they wanted to keep which included the ornate ceiling and the bay windows in their now master bedroom. In addition, they wanted to pay respects to the original flooring of the home and reintroduce a character filled timber floor.
Having worked with Havwoods via his role as Project Manager at Graph Building, Kieran felt confident in choosing engineered timber flooring for their own personal home. Engineered timber flooring gave this couple the natural feel of real timber throughout the house but also gave them the assurance that the product was consistently manufactured to a high quality and was more stable than a solid timber option. The tongue and groove profile also meant that it was easier to lay than some other options.
Ryde Herringbone from the Havwoods V Collection was selected for this project due to its lighter tone. This helped create a more warm and open feel versus the original house which was darker and . The herringbone pattern was also important to these clients, not only as a major design feature but it also allowed for greater flexibility working with an older style home where not everything is always square.
