Located on Melbourne’s city fringe on St Kilda Road, The Royce Hotel has recently changed hands in 2017 and has undergone a major remodelling. Architecture firm SJB were invited back after first remodeling the project over 10 years ago to apply their expersite on this new and exciting project. The project envisions SJB’s perception of what was once Australia’s first ever Rolls Royce car showroom with the site having a idiosyncratic mix of Spanish Mission and 1930s architecture with delightfully conserved facades.
Havwoods supplied the exquisite Alabastro chevron flooring which undoubtly compliments the overall feel of opulence and sophistication of the Art Deco period.
We asked the SJB’s Director of Interior Design in Melbourne, Andrew Parr what were the factors that came into choosing the popular Havwoods product. Andrew says “The decision to use the Alabastro Chevron in our Royce Hotel project was based on a few elements; the corner hexagonal shape of the existing building fits perfectly with the chevron allowing the pattern to feel aligned with the perimeter wall; the lime colouring references the soft hues of the period and the overall look harks back to the 1930’s art deco style.”
