On a drizzly May evening, the Havwoods team warmly welcomed 45 women to the Melbourne showroom for the Women in Design & Construction (WIDAC) Sustainability Workshop.
The evening opened with wine and nibbles where the mixed crowd (architects, designers, engineers, project managers, graduates, current students) had the opportunity to network with other guests and expand their understanding of the industry.
The presentation was delivered by two sustainability experts from Norman Disney & Young, a global engineering consultancy. They spoke about the positive impact of sustainability in building environments and provided practical tools to implement ‘green thinking’ on projects of any size. To place all this important knowledge to practical use, guests were encouraged to split into smaller teams and create their own sustainable project as based on a pre-defined brief. All the ideas were incredibly impressive and provided a great impetus to envision how these practices could be applied to real-world situations.
At Havwoods, we are incredibly proud of our ethical and environmental credentials. Our extensive product collections are certified and endorsed by several prominent environmental organisations including: Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC®), Program for Endorsement of Forest Certification™ (PEFC™), Good Environmental Choice Australia (GECA) and Cradle to Cradle™.
This ensures that each step of the supply chain has been monitored closely through independent auditing and that products are produced in compliance with ecological, social and ethical standards.
By purchasing a Havwoods sustainable timber product, you are receiving the tangible benefit of a more solid product, with greater wear-resistance capabilities, as the tree has been given the opportunity to mature. You also have the awareness of mind that your purchase is in direct support for the preservation of our planet - home to over 7.7 billion individuals. Now that’s something to cheer about!
